Amazon has completely changed the way that we buy products and choose service providers. Amazon has changed buyer behavior for ever. Prior to Amazon, we would go into brick and mortar stores, shop around and choose the products that we liked the most personally. We didn't have any type of previous engagement or reviews at the touch of our fingers in a brick and mortar setting.


Fast forward to our rapidly changing digital world and we find that we have now been conditioned to ALWAYS check out online reviews before purchasing a product or service.


Think about it. Prior to the internet and Amazon, we didn't have resources that could help us make buying decisions. We might have benefited from some word-of-mouth or past experiences from friends and families, but we never had it at the scale like we do today.


It's now baked into our buying process. We always want to research a product or service and make sure that others are having good experiences with a particular product or service. Before we make a final buying decision we always check the reviews.


Before we sit down at a restaurant with our families, we check the reviews.


Before we buy a new TV, we check the reviews.


You better bet, before we drop several thousands of dollars on a home service project or renovation, we are checking out reviews and working with businesses that have a successful track record of past performance.

Just like prior to the internet, companies reputations in a local community was crucial. You knew the "good" companies from the "bad" companies just from the word on the street. If people had a bad or positive experience, they would share it with friends and family, and then word would eventually get out to the entire community.


The internet is allows for information to travel much quicker and it keeps a record of all customer feedback from years ago. That is why it is CRUCIAL to focus on reputation management. Your online reputation could make or break your company.
